Pachisi is one of the most famous Indian traditional games. It is regarded as the national game of India. The game has derived its name from the Indian word ‘Pachis' that means ‘twenty five', and is the highest score that can be achieved in this game. Pachisi is a game for four players, usually in two teams. One team has yellow and black pieces; the other team has red and green ones. The winners are those two people who both get their pieces to the finish first.
Pachisi is a variant of Chaupar – another ancient Indian game of great skill and complexity. The roots of Pachisi lie in antiquity, in fact, the game might have existed in India as early as the 4 th century AD. Pachisi boards are typically constructed of cloth, 6 cowry shells are thrown to determine the moves and the counters are made of wood in a beehive shape.Pachisi is a 'Cross and Circle' game, variations of which appear all over the world.
Presently, Pachisi has become a collector's item owing to its ancient origins and regal heritage. The pachisi sets are completely handmade by Indian artisans following the traditional techniques and patterns.
