Take a bunch of silk threads of different colors. The length of threads should be 20 to 24 inches.
Fold the bunch of threads into half and tie a knot with a cotton thread at one-fourth of the length of bunch.
Cut the loops of the one-fourth part of the thread with the help of scissors. This one-fourth part will be used for making rakhi while from the remaining three-fourth part, string of the rakhi will be made.
Take a toothbrush and rub it on the open end of the one-fourth part. This will make the silk thread fluffy and soft.
Now, divide the three-fourth part of the thread into two halves and plait both the halves separately.
Tie a knot at the end of the plaited halves using the cotton thread. Fluff the open ends of these two strands with a toothbrush.
Decorate the one-fourth part by sticking beads, sequins or mirrors on it with the help of glue. You can also stick some religious motifs on it.
Your rakhi is now ready. Tie it on the hand of your brother and make this Raksha Bandhan an occasion to remember.
