The origin of the term, ‘textile' is from Latin language. The original meaning of the term is ‘to weave'. The textile tradition of India is perhaps the world's oldest textile tradition. The textile industry occupies a very significant place in the Indian subcontinent. The various types of machinery used in the production process of various textile products is referred as textile machinery. Textile machinery is generally used in cotton mill, woolen mill, covering plants, garment factories and man-made factories.
History of Textile Machinery
The global economy has seen resurgence in the recent years and is imprinted with a rich history of the textile industry since its evolution and progress. Man’s primary need of clothing was there since times immemorial which had consequently led to the spinning of fiber into yarn and cloth weaving. This basic need and consecutive process of development has ultimately resulted in the innovation of textile machinery. The major inventions in textile machinery occurred in a relatively short span during Industrial Revolution. The first textile machinery to be used was the spinning wheel and the development of which took place first in the Indian subcontinent and then reached Europe in the 14th century.
