Textile Clothing refers to dress, garment, apparel or attire worn by men, women and children to cover their body. Clothing serves the purpose of comfort, protection and modesty. The general trend in textile clothing is influenced by socio-political, economic and environmental factors. Clothes reflect the society and its culture. Right from the primitive era of dressing up with fur, leaves and grass to the modern fashion trends textile clothing has evolved and is constantly evolving.
Clothing is gender specific. Men dress up in shirts and trousers whereas women like wearing skirts and blouses. The oriental (eastern) way of dressing is again different form its occidental (western) counterpart. So it is marked by geographical boundaries too. Western fashion, the commonly accepted fashion statement has certainly overshadowed the traditional and ethnic dresses. But people do like to wear them on special occasions.
Textile clothing is divided into three parts:
Body Garment--Shirts, trousers, skirts, blouses
Head Gear-- Hat, caps, bonnets
Footwear--
Shoes, socks
Occupation--
Students, military and police personnel wear uniforms
Politics and Religion--
Varied national costumes and specific dresses worn by a particular religious community
Status--
Wealthier people prefer expensive fabrics like silk, satin whereas the poor people go in for cotton, flax and wool
The commonly used natural materials for textile garments are cotton, wool, linen, silk and synthetic fibers like nylon and polyester. Textile clothing needs proper fabric care. It needs to be laundered, ironed and properly stored.
The textile clothing-manufacturing sector is a highly proliferating industry catering to a variety of products that are easily available at shops and all retails and wholesale outlets.
