Woolen Pillow Cover

Pillows are small soft head supports. They are usually used to support the head while sleeping. Pillows are also used as decorative items to be used on couches, chairs or even on beds. Decorative pillows are known as throw pillows. Pillows are covered by pillow covers or pillow shams. The covers act as protective cases or decorative covers. The pillow covers for throw pillows are made of shiny fabrics with embroidery or embellishments on them. Functional pillow covers are made of plain cloth and are easily removable to facilitate easy washing. Functional pillow covers are made of cotton, voile, cambric, flannel or even wool.

Sewing a Woolen Pillow Cover:
To make a woolen pillow cover, the woolen fabric is cut according to the pillow size, leaving three inches on all sides for the seams. The cover is stitched inside out, leaving one side open. The case is turned inside out and the corners of the seams are folded to give a neat finish. Woolen pillow covers are sometimes embroidered with small designs at the corners. Woolen pillow covers are extremely soft and are very comfortable to use in the cold season.

Advantages of Using Woolen Pillow Cover:

Woolen pillow covers act as a natural thermostat and can be used in almost all seasons. The moisture absorbing properties of wool make it ideal for summer nights as well. Good quality woolen covers retain their softness for a long time. Since wool is a natural insulator, it keeps the pillow warm on winter nights.

Disadvantages of Using Woolen Pillow Covers:

Using woolen pillow cover has one big disadvantage. Wool is not as tough or durable as cotton. Prolonged use will result in early wear and tear of the cover.

Woolen pillow covers are completely machine washable. The low static fibers resist dust mites; making woolen pillow covers a perfect option for those with allergies.
