History of Embroidery
People knew embroidery from ancient times. It is believed to date back to three thousand BC. We get the examples of embroidery from ancient Egypt, Iron Age, Northern Europe and Song Dynasty China. Parts of Northern Vietnam, Mexico and Eastern Europe were acquainted with the art of hand weaving and all the related patterns of embroidery. One such finest example of embroidery is that of The Bayeux Tapestry. This is not a tapestry in the true sense of the term. Rather, it is a rich form of embroidered wall hanging. Formerly, it was displayed at the Bayeux Cathedral. But now, a special museum in Bayeux, Normandy is home to this exquisite piece of artwork.
