People from Persia, India, Byzantium, medieval England and Baroque Europe used to flaunt elaborately embroidered home furnishings, religious objects and other apparels that were symbol of wealth and status in the society. The traditional hand embroidery was also known to all. The technique of weaving came down from our forefathers. Parts of Northern Vietnam, Mexico and Eastern Europe were acquainted with the art of hand weaving and all the related patterns of embroidery. One such finest example of embroidery is that of The Bayeux Tapestry. This is not a tapestry in the true sense of the term. Rather, it is a rich form of embroidered wall hanging. Formerly, it was displayed at the Bayeux Cathedral. But now, a special museum in Bayeux, Normandy is home to this exquisite piece of artwork.
