Duvets

A duvet is a kind of bedding filled with down or feathers. It is flat and soft and is used as a blanket. Duvets are also used to cover beds instead of bed covers in many places. Duvets first originated in rural Europe.

Purpose of a Duvet:

A duvet is used as a blanket. It is a widely used form of bed covering in Northern Europe and Scandinavia. Using duvets minimizes the hassles of using quilts, sheets, blankets and other bed coverings. A duvet is sometimes stuffed with silk, wool or artificial fibers. Duvets are used alone and not with sheets or blankets.

Care of Duvets:
  • Duvets should be protected with duvet covers. The duvet cover should be washed regularly and the duvet itself should be cleaned once in every four or five years.
  • Duvets should be hand washed only, unless the manufacturer's instructions say that it is machine washable.
  • Duvets should be washed in warm water with a mild detergent so that the fibers do not get flattened.
  • Bleach or brightener should not be used to clean duvets as they wear out the down protective layers on duvets
  • Duvets should be dried in the shade otherwise the sunlight will make the down smell.
  • The duvets may shrink a little from the wash but generally the shrinkage is marginal.
