Dupion is a kind of silk obtained from double cocoons. Dupion is also spelled as Douppioni or Dupioni. The silk is made by spinning two cocoons side by side and interlocking the fibers so that they have to be reeled together. The resultant fabric has a firm drape with a good luster. Dupion fabrics have a nubby texture and crisp feel. It is used extensively in making furnishings.

Care of Dupion Cushion Covers:
The dupion fabric needs to be washed out before sewing. The stiffness of the fabric is reduced while washing. During the first wash the fabric may loose a little bit of its sheen and also shrink a little. After the first wash the silk does not wrinkle or shrink much. However it is best to get the dupion cushion cover dry cleaned. In case the cushion cover is store brought, the cover should never be washed at home. It should be dry cleaned from the very first instance. However it should be remembered that unwashed dupion has a crisp feeling, whereas washed dupion silk is soft to touch. Dupion cushion covers are an inexpensive and excellent way to give a new feel to the décor of a room.
