History of Cotton
Although we do not know when was cotton first planted, scientists have evidence cotton was there around thousands of years ago. They have, indeed, found pieces of cotton in caves in Mexico. In Pakistan also, even before the birth of Christ, cotton was produced i.e. nearly three thousand years back. It was used to manufacture different clothes and home furnishing items in the Indus River Valley. Egyptians as well knew the art of weaving cotton fabrics around the same decade. In around 800 AD, Arab merchants were the ones to introduce cotton in European countries. Gradually, flax and wool was replaced by cotton as the growing population was attracted towards cotton. In 1942, Christopher Columbus explored cotton in the Bahamas. Basically, by the end of 1500, cotton was known worldwide.
