Hand Appliqué Work
The art of hand appliqué covers a wide range of designs and patterns. From primitive folk art to the sophisticated Baltimore album quilt, hand appliqué is gorgeous. With gamut of designs done up in bright hues, appliqué work has wide band of modern usage too. It is used as bed covers, pillow covers, tablecloth, TV covers and more things. It gives the essence of ethnicity with style.
In fact, different techniques can be used to create the same effect of appliqué work, whether it is machine work or handwork. No single technique is the ‘right’ one. It entirely depends upon the quilters. Hence, fresh quilters should try out with several different techniques to find the one that is most comfortable. Basically, hand appliqué work involves three stitches:
