Historical Application
The use of leather first came into being in the early Paleolithic period, when cave paintings were done in Lerida near Spain. In the excavations many tools made of bones were also found which proved that these things were used for scraping the skins of animals for removing hairs. In the Middle Ages leather was used for different purposes like footwear, cases and trunks, clothes, leather bottles and leather bags and saddlery. Leather was also used for upholstery of couches and chairs, decorating and binding books, to decorate coaches, and for walls and chairs. With the gradual growth in industrialization in the 18th and 19th century great demands for new leather kinds like belting leathers for driving machines was noticed. And during the end of the 19 th century demand for different kinds of leather came into being. People now prefer soft, comfortable and colorful leather.
