Many people have the habit to write their daily experiences in a diary. Some of these dairies have even been published and gained great popularity like Anna Franc's Diary.

Diaries in the Past
The word “ diary ” comes from the Latin word “ diarium ” which means a day. The oldest example of diaries comes from East Asian cultures and dates back roughly to the 9th century. Samuel Pepys is one of the earliest diarists who have become quite popular today. John Evelyn is a contemporary of Samuel Pepys and is well-known for his diaries. Many historical and literary figures of the Renaissance period are known to have maintained diaries. The greatest advantage of diaries is that they can be written with simple pencil or pen. One need not always be grammatically correct while writing diaries. It is just a record of the spontaneous feelings of a person which may not always be sensible to the general audience.
