Brasswares

Brasswares are made of brass, a yellow alloy of copper and zinc. Sometimes other materials are added while making brass but that quantity remains minimal. The chief metals copper and zinc remain present in brass in the ratio of 67% copper and 33% zinc.

Historical Perspective:
Some ancient metalworkers used to make copper by melting the raw material. While making copper they unknowingly made brass. The reason behind this was that sometimes tin and zinc ore used to be found together and both these materials had same color and properties. The distinction was clarified in and around 20 B.C.-A.D, when some 20 metalworkers from the Mediterranean Sea understood the difference between the two metals. Since 300 A.D. the brass metalworking industry has flourished. Presently Germany and Netherlands are the big centers for manufacturing of brass. In the year 1852, the metal cartridge was made for firearms for very first time. Many other metal were also tried for the purpose but brass became more successful because of its quality of sealing and increasing.

Manufacturing Process:

Brass has a different process of manufacturing. The metal is manufacture by mixing the exact raw material with a molten metal and the kept to solidify. The solid metal is then changed and transferred through many steps for producing the needed brass collection. Brass collections are the brass stocks available in different forms like, sheet, plate, foil, rod, bar and wire. Basically the manufacturing process differs according to the desired shape and properties of the metal. There are some common steps followed during the manufacturing of brass, like Melting, Hot rolling, Annealing or cold rolling and finally finish rolling.

Brasswares are yellow colored and similar to gold. The wares easily get tarnished and are mostly used for decoration purpose. The brasswares are used since old ages. According to the traditional perceptions brasswares are also use for medicating purposes. There are some soft brass wares while there are others mixed of aluminum which makes the wares strong.

Brasswares are of different types- Admiralty brass, Alpha brass and Alpha-beta, aluminum brass ware, Arsenic brassware, Beta brassware and others like, red brass, yellow brass, white brassware and Naval brassware.
