Portrait painting is an artistic representation of a person or object. The basic intention of a portrait painting is to capture some particular traits of the person being portrayed. Portrait painting can also be termed as a ‘painted portrait’ and mainly reveals something about the subject’s personality.

Origin of Portrait Painting

The origin of portrait painting can be traced back to the Christian era. Conventional tints were used in these paintings to distinguish the complexion of two sexes.
